Music streaming is now how most of India listens - but with six major services competing for your ₹100 to ₹300 a month, picking the wrong plan means overpaying for features you don't use. This guide lays out what each service actually charges today and where the real savings hide.

Spotify


Still the most popular option, with the strongest playlists and social features (Jam, Blend, Wrapped).

  • Free: Ad-supported, limited skips, standard quality.
  • Premium Standard: ₹139/month. Ad-free, offline downloads, up to 320 kbps. New users currently get 2 months for ₹139.
  • Premium Platinum: ₹299/month for up to 3 accounts at the same address, with lossless audio, AI DJ and DJ-software support. (This replaced the old Family plan.)
  • Student: ₹69/month, same as Standard, with the same 2-months-for-₹69 intro.
  • Best deal right now: 12 months of Premium for ₹799 — a limited, eligibility-based offer that works out to about ₹67/month.

Apple Music


Largest lossless and Spatial Audio catalogue, and now works on Android and Windows too.

  • Individual: ₹139/month.
  • Family: ₹229/month, up to six people, each with their own library.
  • Student: ₹69/month, and it includes Apple TV at no extra cost.
  • Trials: 1 month free for new subscribers; 3 months free if you've just bought an eligible Apple device. Apple Music Classical is included with every plan.

YouTube Music


Often overlooked, but the only service that streams live performances, remixes and covers that aren't on any other platform.

  • Music Premium: from ₹119/month, with a 1-month free trial for new members.
  • Two-person plan available (also with a free trial) — a cheaper way to share than most family tiers.
  • Prepaid plans are available if you'd rather not set up auto-renewal.

Gaana


Strongest for Hindi and regional music, with a huge devotional and retro catalogue.

  • Free: Ad-supported.
  • Gaana Plus monthly: ₹119/month.
  • Gaana Plus annual: ₹899 one-time (≈₹75/month), no recurring charge.
  • Trial: 1 month for ₹1 — note it auto-renews to the yearly plan, so cancel before the month is up if you're just testing.
  • Gaana also appears in bundles like Times Prime, which can be the cheapest route if you use other Times Prime perks.
JioSaavn

Deep Indian and international catalogue with the most flexible plan lengths of any service.

  • Pro Individual: ₹99/month. Ad-free, unlimited downloads, unlimited JioTunes.
  • Pro Lite: ₹9/day or ₹29/week — ideal for a trip or a festival week.
  • Pro Student: ₹49/month.
  • JioTunes+: ₹49/month if you only want caller tunes.
  • Jio mobile customers should check their recharge pack first — many plans bundle JioSaavn Pro.

Amazon Music:


Two very different products under one name, and the distinction matters.

  • Prime Music comes free with any Amazon Prime plan (₹299/month or ₹1,499/year; Prime Lite ₹799/year). The catalogue is large but you can't pick specific songs on demand in some modes.
  • Music Unlimited adds on-demand play, HD/Spatial Audio and unlimited skips: ₹119/month, or ₹99/month for Prime members, with a 30-day free trial.
If you already pay for Prime, Music Unlimited at ₹99 is the cheapest full-featured tier on this list.

  1. Check your mobile plan first. Jio and other telecom recharges frequently bundle a streaming subscription. This is the single most common way Indians overpay — paying twice for the same service.
  2. Pay annually if you're sure. Spotify's ₹799 offer and Gaana's ₹899 one-time plan each save roughly 40% versus monthly.
  3. Split a family or group plan. Apple's ₹229 for six is ₹38 a head; Spotify Platinum is ₹100 a head for three, with lossless included.
  4. Use student pricing. Spotify, Apple and JioSaavn all halve the price with a verified student ID, and Apple throws in Apple TV.
