MEHDI HASSAN PASSED AWAY – Remembering the Legend

After 12 years suffering from the long illness, the Legendary Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan has left us. It’s the end of an era, just after Jagjit Singh’s demise last year, Shahanshah-e-Ghazal - Mehdi Hasan Sahib has passed away this year on 13th June 2012, He was suffering from a Lung disease.

His music soared above the borders, He was equally loved in both nations India and Pakistan. We would like to share this Letter to Mehdi Hasan from the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee which he wrote on June 5, 2001.

On his demise, Lata Mangeshkar wrote on her twitter handle:

aaj bohot bade ghazal gayak kalaakar mehedi hassan sahab hamare bich nahi rahe,mujhe is baat bohot dukh hai,gazal gaayki ke kshetra mein unhone bohot bada parivartan laaya,aaj gazal unke jaane se ghazal ki bohot nadi haani hui hai, ab un jaisa kalakar phir se aana mushkil hai,wo bohot bade shastriya sangeet ke gayak bhi the,aur unke gaane me rajasthan ke sangeet ki khushboo bhi thi,unhone mere liye kuch gaane banaaye the, unme se hi ek ghazal maine jo unhone mujhe gaake bheji thi, uska maine duet karke record kiya tha,un ke saath mera ye ek hi gaana hai, main ishwar se prarthana karti hun, ki mehedi sahab ki aatma ko woh shaanti pradan karein,

Lata Mangeshkar paid tribute to him, with this Ghazal. This is the only song of Lata Mangeshkar which she has sung with Mehdi Hassan.
